The West End of Dundee is dominated by the long stretching Perth Road which starts just on the edge of the city centre (at the west side of the Overgate shopping centre) and extends past the University of Dundee , Duncan of Jordanstone Art College , Blackness Library at the Sinderins , along past the well known Invercarse hotel and peters out past Ninewells hospital close to the main road to Perth at the Swallow roundabout.
Running parallel with the main part of the Perth Road (but not for as long ) is the Blackness Road. Closer to the town centre and the University of Dundee campus is the new Dundee casino , the bustling West Port and busy South Tay street which all add to the commercial and cultural mix of the area.
The West End of Dundee is not only about buildings – there are fine green places too – Magdalen Green – with its iconic bandstand is a great place for a walk , a dreamy sunday afternoon with a brass band playing , a game of frisbee or whatever takes your fancy. There is also the beautiful Balgay Park – with tennis courts , swings and roundabout for the kids – sledging in the winter.
